A type of cable that has an inner conductor surrounded by a tubular insulating layer, surrounded by a tubular conducting shield.

- Many coaxial cables also have an insulating outer sheath or jacket.
- Originally designed to transmit analog broadcast TV from antennas to television sets.
- Relatively immune to outside electromagnetic interference compared to twisted pair.
- Natural choice when networks emerged.
- Well suited to broadband applications.
- All coaxial cables contain a solid copper core, today the core is often steel that is clad with copper.
